Welcome to Year 5S

Welcome to Year 5S from Miss Severs and Mrs Davies

Summer 1

This half-term our topic is 'Happy and Healthy'. It will be a science based topic and our writing in Literacy will also be based around this topic. During science we will be looking at the circulatory system. This will involve identifying parts of the heart and its functions. We will find outthe role of blood and why it is important. In geography we will be exploring how where you live affects how healthy you are.

Spring 2

This half-term our topic is Castles. We will be looking at different types of Medieval castles, where castles are built and how to storm a castle.

Spring 1

Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a lovely holiday.

Our current theme is:

 Natural Disasters!!’

This unit is a geography led unit. We will be identifying countries of the world and finding out where popular volcanoes are situated as well as finding out where famous earthquakes have occurred. We will then use this knowledge to try and suggest why these natural disasters take place. For more information, have a look at our parent booklet.

Autumn 2

This half term our topic is 'Tudors'. We will be thinking about what life was like in Tudor times including the houses they lived in, the food they eat and the things they did for fun. Tudors will also be the focus of our English work, thinking about writing stories with historical settings and writing non-chronological reports about aspects of Tudor life. Please see below for more information about this.

Autumn 1

This half term our topic is 'Conflict'. We will be thinking about major wars since World War I and thinking about how war has changed. In English we are looking at the book 'One boy's war' and writing descriptive accounts, diaries, letters and poetry based on this. In science our topic is Light and Sound. In maths we are thinking about the place value of numbers up to one million, rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred and a thousand followed by learning about the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division or more detail look at our parent booklet.
