Welcome to Year 1H
Welcome to Year 1H from Miss Halstead, Mrs Chaplin, Mr Ramsden and Miss Milner.
Our topic this half term is The Great Outdoors. We will be learning all about plants and how they grow. We will start our topic by going on a scavenger hunt on the field and in the woods to find all sorts of wonderful plants and insects. During the topic we will have the opportunity to go to forest school and take our learning outdoors! We also be planting some of our own plants in the classroom and watching them grow!
This half term we will continue with our Hot and Cold topic and will be focusing on hot places.
We have started to read the story of 'Meerkat Mail' and have enjoyed finding out about meerkats.
We are looking forward to our trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park next week.
Happy New Year!
Our topic this term is 'Hot and Cold.' We will be finding out all about hot and cold places around the world.
We were excited to receive a letter from the Antarctic Research Council explaining that there is a penguin in our area! This week we found a fish and some wet footprints in the classroom so we have made missing posters describing the penguin to put up around the school.
Our topic this half term is Great & Ghastly Events. We started by learning about the Gunpowder Plot and how we remember Guy Fawkes today. We learnt about how to stay safe on bonfire night.
We also learnt about World War I in preparation for Remembrance. We sewed felt poppies and we wore them with pride. We learned about Jutland Jack and Sergeant Stubby who were both heroes in World War I.
We have started to find out about the Great Fire of London.
Thank you for all of the Flat Stanley photographs that have come back to school from all around the world. The children have enjoyed identifying places that Stanley has visited within the UK and other countries.
This week we received a Flat Stanley from a class of Year 1 pupils from a school in Annecy, France. We will be writing letters to the children in France and will be sending one of our Flat Stanleys to have some adventures in the Alps. We have started to look at Baildon and Bradford on maps and aerial photographs and we will start to compare Baildon with Annecy.
Our inspirational person is Stephen Hawking. We found out about his life and learned about some of his discoveries.
Year 1 have settled in well to their new classroom and are enjoying working with all of the brand new resources within the classroom and the outdoor area.
Mrs Chaplin will be responsible for the teaching of phonics to all Year 1 pupils and will be working every morning. Miss Milner will cover the class on a Thursday morning and will be teaching RE and PSHCE.
On a Thursday afternoon, Year 1 will have a PE lesson with Mr Hazel and a music lesson with Mrs Humphreys.
Our first topic is Journeys. Our learning will be based around different types of transport and we will be using stories about different journeys as a context for our learning.
